I stopped asking for better
when I discovered
that it wasnβt something
I would ever receive;
I stopped giving second chances,
when after the third,
fourth,
fifth time,
I realised
it would be easier just to leave;
I stopped opening my heart
when all it resulted in was pain;
I stopped extending my trust
when I was taught
that it would only be broken again;
Iβve been shaped by
a lifetime of disappointmentβ
of hurt and of regretβ
and although I may have forgiven,
I will never, ever forget. Just a few of the things that we learn from life.

Among the bones of sorrow,
Burns the light of knowing,
Written in blood and marrow.
~
Not an abduction,
But a weariness of the constant loss,
The disappointment you always carry.
~
There are those who care,
Those who have stepped back
To give you space, tired.
~
Waiting aboard their vessel,
Waiting for an invitation,
A compass to follow.
~
Send a flare, bright sparks in the sky,
A way to find you,
The ship leaves dock tonight.
